Shower Waterproofing Built on Laticrete Membranes

When tile meets water in a Las Vegas bathroom or wet room, the membrane underneath decides if the assembly stays dry for decades or fails within years. We install Laticrete Hydro Ban and 9235 waterproofing systems paired with matched underlayments, all specified and installed as one integrated slab-to-finish assembly. Free written estimate on every project.

Substrate to finish

Why Laticrete Waterproofing Stops Leaks

Tile and stone look solid, but water finds every grout line and micro-crack. The real protection lives in the layer beneath the tile. Laticrete waterproofing membranes (Hydro Ban liquid, 9235 reinforced) seal the substrate completely, then the tile bonds directly into the membrane so water cannot migrate sideways.

Below the membrane, a Laticrete underlayment flattens the substrate and creates a chemical bond with the membrane above. This eliminates the common failure point where two different brands meet and delaminate under moisture and movement.

The same one-system approach guides our Sika and BASF installations. We also apply this logic to basement waterproofing and polished concrete floors where substrate prep is everything.

Installation sequence

How Laticrete Waterproofing Gets Installed

  1. Assess the substrate and use case

We evaluate the substrate condition, the wet-area exposure and the tile or stone finish to determine whether Hydro Ban liquid membrane or 9235 fabric-reinforced system is the right choice.

  2. Prepare and level with underlayment

The substrate is cleaned and prepped, then a matched Laticrete underlayment is applied to bring the surface flat and ready for the waterproofing membrane to bond.

  3. Apply the waterproofing membrane

The Hydro Ban or 9235 membrane is applied at the manufacturer-specified thickness with all seams, corners and transitions detailed and sealed per the assembly spec.

  4. Set tile into Laticrete thinset

Tile or stone is set into a Laticrete thinset mortar that bonds chemically into the membrane, creating one continuous waterproof assembly from substrate to grout.

Two membrane options

Hydro Ban vs 9235 Fabric-Reinforced

Hydro Ban is the liquid-applied membrane that works for most shower walls, wet-room floors and below-grade tile applications. It flows into corners and seals the substrate in one continuous layer, then tile sets directly into it.

The 9235 fabric-reinforced system adds a woven reinforcement layer at movement joints, inside corners and complex transitions where the liquid alone needs extra strength. We choose based on the specific assembly and the site conditions.

Both pair with Laticrete underlayments and thinsets to form one bonded system. This same integrated approach informs our Mapei and Ardex work.

Common questions

Laticrete Waterproofing Questions Answered

Hydro Ban, 9235, underlayments and tile assembly details in Las Vegas.

Hydro Ban is a liquid-applied waterproofing membrane for showers, wet rooms and below-grade tile assemblies. It seals the substrate, then tile or finish sets into a Laticrete thinset that bonds into the membrane.
The 9235 fabric-reinforced system adds reinforcement at corners, movement joints and detailed transitions where liquid alone is not enough. We pick based on the specific assembly.
Usually yes. A matched Laticrete underlayment brings the substrate flat and bonds chemically to the membrane above, removing the layer-boundary failure mode you get from mixing brands.
Yes. Hydro Ban and 9235 are designed for shower assemblies and are widely specified for wet rooms, with proper detailing at drains, corners and curbs as part of the install.
We install Laticrete systems to the published manufacturer spec, with primer, membrane and tile-setting products from the same family, so the warranty is intact and the assembly performs.

Hydro Ban under our new shower tile. Watertight, properly detailed at the curb and drain. Two years in and not a single grout-line stain from leaks.

They installed the full Laticrete chain, underlayment, membrane and thinset. One system, one warranty, no finger-pointing between brands.

★★★★★

9235 fabric-reinforced waterproofing for a tricky wet-area detail. Done right at every corner and seam, exactly the assembly the spec called for.

They walked me through why all-Laticrete made sense instead of mixing products. The tile job has been dead solid since.
