Machine-Formed Curb & Gutter for Las Vegas Lots

The edge of a parking lot is where drainage begins. We pour curb and gutter using slipform equipment for long straight runs and hand-formed techniques for transitions, drop-curbs, and curves. Every pour is staked to grade, sloped to catch basins, and tied to adjacent pavement or city streets. Free written estimate included.

  • Slipform paver for continuous runs
  • Hand-formed details and transitions
  • Slope verified to catch basins

The gutter is the system

How Curb & Gutter Manages Lot Drainage

Curb and gutter form the boundary between the parking surface and the landscape, but their real job is moving water. The gutter pan slopes toward catch basins; the curb prevents vehicles from running off the edge and contains the water being channeled. Without proper slope, the gutter becomes a pond. With it, every storm drains cleanly.

Long straight runs around a lot perimeter are poured with a slipform paver, a machine that extrudes the concrete to the engineered cross-section while moving forward. Transitions at lot corners, intersections with other pavement, drop-curbs for accessible ramps, and any curved sections are hand-formed by crews who tie the hand-work seamlessly into the machine-formed sections. Both methods produce the same finished profile.

This approach integrates with our broader parking lot concrete work, our commercial sidewalk pours, and any ADA ramp details that need flush curb-cuts. Existing curb damage is handled through our parking lot repair service.

Steps to Install Curb & Gutter in Las Vegas

  1. Survey and stake the line

The curb alignment is set from the property survey and drainage plan. Elevations are marked at every transition, catch basin, and slope change. The staking confirms the line before any ground work begins.

  2. Excavate and compact base

The subgrade is cut to depth, compacted, and a gravel base is placed and compacted again. The surface is brought to the elevation where the concrete pour will start.

  3. Machine or hand-form the concrete

Long runs are poured with a slipform paver that extrudes the concrete to the cross-section while moving. Transitions, curves, and details are hand-formed and tied into the slipform sections.

  4. Joint, cure, and finish

Control joints are tooled at engineered spacing. The concrete cures protected from weather. Tie-ins to the parking lot slab and any street pavement are detailed and finished cleanly.

Drainage is the detail

Why Slope Determines Gutter Performance

A gutter without slope is a trough that holds water through every freeze-thaw cycle. The slope from any point along the pan to the next catch basin must be steep enough to move water at peak flow without ponding. We monitor slope as the slipform paver moves, because even a small loss of grade creates low spots that fail in winter. After cure, we verify the drainage path works before signing off.

Coordination matters at every boundary. The curb meets the parking lot slab flush, the city street tie-in is poured to municipal spec and passes inspection, and any ADA ramp curb-cuts are detailed for compliance. The curb is the transition point between systems; it has to fit each one. Our parking services and broader commercial concrete work all coordinate through the curb detail.

Common questions

Curb & Gutter Questions Answered

Slipform vs hand-formed, slope verification, city tie-ins, and repair options.

Both, depending on the run. Long continuous runs are slipformed for speed and consistency; transitions, intersections, drop-curbs and curves are hand-formed where the machine cannot work. Most lots get both techniques in the same project.
Surveyed at staking, monitored during the pour (slipform machines lose slope if they catch on irregularities), and verified after cure. A pan without slope holds water; we never leave one without confirming the drainage path actually works.
Yes, where the project includes a city tie-in, the curb is poured to the city's spec at that transition. We coordinate with the engineer and city inspector on the elevation and cross-section so the tie-in passes inspection.
Yes, isolated sections of failed curb can be cut out and re-poured to match. See parking lot repair for that triage approach; we treat curb damage the same way.
Machine slipform moves quickly; a long lot perimeter can be done in a few days. Hand-formed transitions add time; the full schedule is in the quote so you know how long curb work takes within the larger project.

★★★★★

Long slipform run around our entire lot perimeter. Continuous, sharp edges, exact slope to the catch basins. The drainage works perfectly through every melt.

Hand-formed transitions at every entrance look like part of the design, not patched-in. They coordinated the curb pour with the asphalt apron so the meeting line is invisible.

City tie-in passed inspection first time. They knew the city's spec, poured to it, and the inspector signed off without revisions. Saved real schedule slip.

★★★★★

Drop-curbs at every accessible ramp tied in flush. ADA inspector confirmed compliance. The detail work shows; nothing improvised, everything to spec.
