What Makes a Concrete Foundation Different from Other Pours

A foundation is not a driveway or a patio. It carries the entire structure, so the work has to be exact. We start with an excavation to the engineered depth, confirm the bearing soil, and set the footing size and reinforcement to the drawings. The concrete slab is formed straight, rebar is tied to spec, and the pour is consolidated so no voids hide inside the walls.

Once the concrete cures, we strip the forms on schedule and apply waterproofing or damp-proofing to keep groundwater out. Weeping tile and drainage are installed so water moves away from the foundation, not toward it. This is the foundation work that lasts.

When an existing foundation shows cracks or movement, foundation repair addresses the root cause, not just the symptom. Crack sealing stops water from entering, and waterproofing paired with proper drainage keeps the problem from returning. Underpinning strengthens a footing that was never deep enough.

The sequence

How Foundation Installation Happens in Las Vegas

  1. Excavate to depth

We dig to the engineered footing depth, verify the bearing soil, and confirm layout and elevations against the structural drawings before ordering concrete.

  2. Form and reinforce

Footings and walls are formed straight and true, rebar is tied to spec, and the work is inspected and approved before the concrete truck arrives.

  3. Place and finish

Concrete is placed and consolidated to eliminate voids and cold joints, footings first, then walls, using the mix design specified on the drawings.

  4. Cure, waterproof, backfill

Forms are removed on schedule, waterproofing or damp-proofing is applied, weeping tile is installed, and the foundation cures before any backfill is placed.

When concrete moves

Catching Foundation Cracks Early Saves Money Later

Small cracks in a foundation wall often go unnoticed until water starts seeping in or a door begins to stick. Crack repair seals those early, before frost and water pressure can widen them into structural problems.

If movement has progressed further, structural repair fixes the cause, not just the visible crack. Underpinning deepens or widens a footing that cannot support the load. Combining any repair with waterproofing and proper drainage ensures the fix holds and the basement stays dry.

Common questions

Foundation Questions Answered

Installation, repair, waterproofing and what foundation work involves in Las Vegas.

Yes. Foundation installation is formed, reinforced and poured to the structural engineer's drawings, footing size, wall thickness, rebar and mix design, and is ready for inspection before the pour.
Watch for stair-step or horizontal cracks, bowing walls, doors and windows that stick, sloping floors or a damp basement corner. Any of those is worth a look, and crack repair early is far cheaper than structural repair later.
Yes. Foundation waterproofing excavates the affected wall, addresses the cracks, applies a proper waterproof membrane and restores drainage and weeping tile so groundwater is carried away instead of pushing in.
Underpinning extends a foundation deeper or wider when the original footing cannot carry the load, common when adding a storey, lowering a basement, or correcting a footing on poor soil.
Yes. We pour footings and foundation walls for additions, tied in or isolated from the existing foundation as the engineer specifies, and matched so the addition settles with the house, not against it.

Footings and a foundation wall for a two-storey addition. Poured to the engineer's drawings, passed inspection first try, and they sent photos at every stage.

Had a crack that leaked every spring. They excavated the wall, sealed it properly and redid the weeping tile. Bone dry through the next melt.

Underpinning to lower our basement. Careful, methodical work, and they explained every step so we understood what was happening under the house.

Caught a few small cracks early on their assessment and sealed them before winter. Honest about what needed doing now versus what could wait.
