When Your Retaining Wall Moves, Las Vegas Concrete Finds Out Why
A wall that leans, bulges, or shifts is showing you a drainage problem, not just a concrete problem. Las Vegas Concrete reads the wall, digs to the source, and fixes what actually failed. Some walls get repaired in place; others need a partial or full rebuild. Every assessment is free and written.
- Root cause identified before any work begins
- Drainage system rebuilt as part of every repair
- Free written estimate with firm scope
Reading the wall before touching it
What a Leaning Retaining Wall Is Actually Telling You
Most retaining wall failures in Las Vegas yards trace back to one thing: water that had nowhere to go. Drainage stone behind the concrete or block face gets silted over time, a perforated pipe collapses or was never installed, and the saturated soil behind the wall builds lateral pressure until something gives. Patching the face or nudging blocks back into line without addressing that pressure is a short-term fix at best.
Before any repair work is quoted, we read the wall: how far it has moved, where the movement is concentrated, whether the footing is still doing its job, and what the drainage situation looks like behind the face. That assessment determines whether the wall is a candidate for in-place repair, a partial section rebuild, or an honest conversation about full replacement as a poured concrete retaining wall or a new block retaining wall built with proper drainage from the start.
The same root-cause logic guides our foundation crack repair work and our broader residential retaining wall services across the Las Vegas area.
Repair sequence
Four Stages of Retaining Wall Repair in Las Vegas
-
On-site assessment and measurement
We walk the wall, measure the degree and direction of movement, probe the soil conditions above and below, and note whether the problem is isolated to one section or spread across the full run. No repair scope is written until this step is complete.
-
Excavation behind the wall face
Fixing drainage means getting behind the wall. We cut back the soil a few feet, expose the existing drainage layer and any pipe, and inspect the back face of the concrete or block for cracking, spalling, or anchor failure that needs to be addressed before backfill.
-
Drainage rebuild and block or slab reset
Fresh drainage aggregate goes in against the back face, a new perforated pipe is set at the base and routed to daylight, and any displaced block sections are reset level. Poured concrete walls that have moved significantly get evaluated for whether they can stay or need to come out.
-
Compacted backfill and post-repair check
The excavated zone is backfilled in lifts and compacted so the drainage path stays intact. We check the wall after the first significant rain event to confirm movement has stopped, and the project handoff includes notes on what to watch for going forward.
Repair vs. replacement decision
Is Las Vegas Retaining Wall Repair the Right Call for Your Wall?
Repair makes sense when the concrete or block structure itself is still sound and the underlying cause, almost always a drainage failure, can be corrected without tearing the whole wall out. It stops making sense when the footing was undersized from the beginning, when the lean has progressed past the point where resetting blocks will hold, or when the wall was simply built too short for the grade it is retaining.
We give a straight answer on which situation a wall is in. If the repair scope would be spending money on a wall that is going to move again within a few seasons, the written quote will say so and recommend a proper replacement instead. See our poured retaining wall and block retaining wall pages for what a correctly built wall looks like. For cost context before the estimate, the concrete cost guide covers typical retaining wall ranges.

Common questions
Your Retaining Wall Repair Questions, Plain Answers
What causes walls to lean, how drainage gets fixed, and when replacement is the honest call.
Three contractors quoted to rebuild the wall. Las Vegas Concrete diagnosed it as a drainage failure, fixed the drainage, reset two block sections, and the wall has stayed put for two years. Fraction of the rebuild price.
Honest that our wall was past repair and a new one was the right call. Could have charged us for a repair that was going to fail. New wall is bombproof. Trust earned.
Drainage pipe behind our poured wall had collapsed years ago. They excavated, replaced it, monitored the wall through spring. No more bulging. Cause was the answer.
Diagnosis was free and detailed. Showed me exactly what was happening and what the options were. Picked the partial rebuild, exactly as quoted, exactly to schedule.
