Color Built Into Stained Concrete Floors

Stain penetrates or chemically reacts into the concrete slab itself, creating permanent color that cannot peel, flake, or wear away like a coating. Las Vegas Concrete applies acid and water-based stains to showroom floors, restaurant dining areas, hotel lobbies, and office reception spaces where rich, variegated character matters. Every project includes a free on-site test and written estimate.

Stain vs coating

Why Stained Concrete Outperforms Paint

Paint and epoxy sit on top of concrete; stain becomes part of it. Acid stains trigger a chemical reaction with the slab's mineral content to form permanent color compounds. Water-based stains soak deep into the pores without creating a surface film. The result is color that lives inside the concrete, not on it, and the natural mottling and variation that comes from the slab's own character becomes a design feature rather than a problem.

Stained concrete shines in high-visibility commercial spaces where the floor itself is part of the brand story. Showrooms, fine-dining restaurants, luxury hotel lobbies, and executive office reception areas all benefit from the depth and uniqueness that stain delivers. Pair it with polished concrete finishing to amplify the color and add a protective layer that lasts years between maintenance cycles.

Our commercial decorative portfolio includes both stain and stamped concrete options. When pattern, texture, or a stone-look aesthetic is the priority, stamped is the tool. When rich, organic color depth is the goal, stain wins. We test both approaches on your slab before recommending one.

How it works

The Stained Concrete Process in Las Vegas

  1. On-site stain sample

We apply your chosen stain to a small test area on the actual slab. This reveals how the concrete will react, the depth of color, and any prep adjustments needed. You see the real result before we commit to the full floor.

  2. Prepare the slab surface

The concrete is diamond-ground or chemically cleaned to strip away old sealers, coatings, and surface contaminants. Open pores allow the stain to penetrate or react properly. Existing damage is assessed; heavily damaged slabs may not stain uniformly.

  3. Apply and develop stain

Acid stain is applied in controlled stages, allowed to react with the concrete minerals, then neutralized with a baking soda solution to stop the reaction. Water-based stain is sprayed or rolled in multiple coats to build color saturation. Both methods create the variegated character.

  4. Polish, seal, and handoff

The stained surface is polished to bring out depth and color richness, then sealed with a commercial-grade sealer. We provide a maintenance schedule (typically sealer refresh every 2-3 years) and care instructions at project close.

Durability and maintenance

Stain Lasts Because It's In the Concrete

Stain cannot peel because there is no coating to peel. It cannot flake because the color is the slab itself. Chemical bonds (acid stain) or deep penetration (water-based stain) make the color permanent. Wear over decades shows as patina, not failure. A sealer protects the surface and keeps the color saturated, but the stain itself is forever.

Maintenance is straightforward. Reapply sealer every 2-3 years in commercial settings where foot traffic is heavy. Coordinate stained zones with adjacent polished concrete areas and other decorative concrete finishes in a unified design. We handle the full scope so all surfaces age and perform together.

Common questions

Stained Concrete Questions, Answered

Acid vs water stain, slab prep, color predictability and pairing with polish.

Acid stain produces deep variegated color through chemical reaction; results are unique to each slab and less predictable. Water-based stain gives more predictable color and a wider palette. We recommend based on the look you want and how much variability you embrace.
Mostly. The stain test on your actual slab gives a strong read of how the color will land at full scale. Some natural variability is part of the appeal; if you want exact-uniform color, a coating is the better tool.
Both, with the right prep. Existing slabs need diamond grind or chemical cleaning to remove old sealers and contaminants so the stain reaches the concrete. Old slabs with extensive damage may not stain evenly; we test first.
Yes, for protection and to bring out the color depth. Sealer reapplication every several years in commercial settings keeps the floor looking sharp and the color saturated.
Typically several days from prep through stain, neutralize, polish and seal. Larger floors stretch to weeks. The schedule is in the quote so you can plan around the work.
