Hangar Floor Coating Built for Las Vegas Operations

Jet fuel spills, Skydrol hydraulic leaks, tow tractor wheels, and aircraft tire loads demand a concrete floor system engineered for aviation. Las Vegas Concrete installs urethane and epoxy coatings rated for the full spectrum of aircraft maintenance chemistry and mechanical stress. Free written estimate on every project.

Chemical exposure

Why Hangar Floor Coatings Require Aviation Spec

A hangar floor is not a warehouse floor. Skydrol hydraulic fluid, jet fuel, avgas, and glycol de-icing agents create a chemical environment that dissolves standard industrial epoxy. The coating must resist all of these simultaneously, which means specifying a urethane cement or aviation-rated epoxy formulated for the full exposure profile.

Load patterns differ too. Tow tractors with small hard wheels create point loads that rival forklifts. Aircraft parked in the hangar sit at specific tire contact zones with substantial static weight. The slab and coating are engineered for both the moving tow loads and the parked aircraft loads, with reinforcement placed where aircraft gear typically rests.

Our full aircraft hangar scope includes apron and taxiway concrete outside the hangar door, plus site concrete for the broader facility.

Installation sequence

How Hangar Floor Coating Gets Installed

  1. Identify chemical profile

We meet with maintenance to document every fluid the hangar encounters: Jet A, avgas, Skydrol type and grade, hydraulic fluid, de-icing chemistry, and spill frequency. This profile drives the system selection.

  2. Grind and remediate slab

The concrete slab is diamond-ground to the coating prep profile. Any zones contaminated by prior fuel or hydraulic spills are remediated (sometimes requiring removal and replacement). Cracks are repaired with high-strength bonded materials.

  3. Apply matched coating

The selected system (urethane cement for severe Skydrol exposure, aviation-rated epoxy for general duty) is applied at engineered thickness. Slip-resistant aggregate is broadcast into service areas where traction matters.

  4. Fill joints and cure

Control joints receive chemical-resistant semi-rigid filler matched to the coating system. The topcoat seals everything. Documentation of chemical-resistance rating is provided for facility compliance files.

Load engineering

Tow Tractor Loads Are Often the Worst Case

The aircraft itself distributes weight across multiple landing gear points. The tow tractor that moves aircraft in and out concentrates load on small hard wheels, creating point stresses that can exceed aircraft tire loads. We engineer the coating and slab for tow tractor loads as the governing case, which ensures the floor handles aircraft loads with margin.

Common questions

Hangar Floor Coating Questions, Answered

Skydrol resistance, tow tractor loads, joint fillers and aviation compliance.

Aviation chemicals (especially Skydrol) attack standard epoxy systems aggressively. Combined with tow tractor point loads and aircraft tire contact patches, the spec has to match a unique exposure profile that other commercial floors do not see.
If the hangar handles aircraft with Skydrol hydraulic systems (most modern commercial and many corporate), yes. Skydrol-rated urethane cement is the typical answer; the wrong system dissolves quickly under Skydrol contact.
Glycol-based de-icing fluids are part of the chemical exposure profile in Las Vegas hangars. We spec the system for those alongside the aviation hydraulics so winter operations do not degrade the floor.
Yes, the joint filler has to be chemical-resistant to the same aviation fluids the coating handles. Standard polyurea filler can degrade under Skydrol; we use chemical-resistant variants in aviation environments.
A typical hangar takes a week or two from prep through cure, with the hangar offline during the work. Larger MRO facilities stretch to multi-week phased installs. The schedule is built around maintenance operations.

★★★★★

Skydrol-rated urethane install in our maintenance hangar. Three years of regular hydraulic spills, zero coating failure at any spill point. Worth the spec premium over standard epoxy.

Z. A5
FBO Manager, Las Vegas Airport
★★★★★

Engineered for our tow tractor loads, not just aircraft loads. The coating has held perfectly at every tow turn point, where the previous floor had failed within months.

Y. A5
MRO Operations, Henderson
★★★★★

Coordinated install during a scheduled maintenance downtime. Hangar offline only for the cure window, back in service on schedule. Real coordination with operations.

Q. A5
Corporate Hangar Owner, Boulder City
★★★★★

Documented chemical-resistance rating for our facility compliance file. Auditor accepted without questions. The documentation matters in aviation.
